Meet Mike Plante
Mike Plante is an innovative communications professional and problem solver who has been providing strategic advice to governors, U.S. Senators, members of congress, businesses and public policy leaders for over twenty-five years.
Mike got his start in 1988 working under James Carville on the Bob Jordan for Governor campaign in North Carolina and for Rahm Emanuel as a senior research association from 1989 – 1992. In addition, he also served as Congressman Mike Barnes’ national delegate tracking coordinator when he ran for chair of the Democratic National Committee.
Since founding Plante & Associates in 1992 Mike and his firm have worked for clients in 44 states including more than 30 gubernatorial and U.S. Senate races and nearly 70 U.S. House of Representatives campaigns. The firm has twice been named to Campaigns & Elections Magazines “Best Client List” recognizing those companies engaged in the most high profile and competitive political campaigns in the country. In 2015 Mike was identified by Ballotpeida as a “top influencer by state” for West Virginia.
A magna cum laude graduate in Philosophy & Religion from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, Mike also holds a Masters in Theological Studies from Harvard University. Mike worked on, but did not complete, a Ph.D at Duke University.
While at Harvard Mike helped create, develop and operate Family House Project, a private emergency shelter program for the homeless in Boston that included emergency winter shelter and transitional housing for hundreds of homeless people. He is past president of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Southern West Virginia and currently serves as a volunteer pilot for Bahamas Habitat, a U.S. based non-profit supporting relief work in the Bahamas and the Caribbean that introduces volunteer pilots to relief mission flying opportunities. Mike is an instrument-rated, FAA licensed commercial multi-engine land and seaplane pilot. His daughter Mariah is a student at Marymount Manhattan College in New York and his daughter Molly is a student at West Virginia University. Getting to be their dad is his proudest accomplishment.
Influencers in American politics are power players who help get candidates elected, put through policy proposals, cause ideological changes, and affect popular perceptions. They can take on many forms: politicians, lobbyists, advisors, donors, corporations, industry groups, labor unions, single-issue organizations, nonprofits, to name a few.
